Compassionate Indiana Adoption Lawyer

Adoptions are usually finalized in a one day hearing in the Juvenile Court with the prospective parents and the child(ren) present. Once the Judge finds that the prospective parents’ Petition to Adopt is in proper form and the adoption is in the best interests of the child(ren), the Judge will enter a Decree of Adoption, the natural parents’ rights will be terminated, and the children’s names will be changed if requested by the adoptive parents. At the close of the hearing, the Judge will usually take a picture or two with the children and parents for a keepsake.

Before the hearing, there is a lot of preparation that you and your attorney will take part in, including a home study.
